Birthday Weekend

Last weekend Dan celebrated a birthday and chose to spend it participating in an Olympic Triathlon.

What a guy is all I can say!

Dan and I headed up with Julia and Emily to Burley, Idaho where the SPUDMAN Triathlon takes place. Many years ago Dan participated in the Spudman and in recent years it has become so popular, you have to throw your name into a lottery to compete.

Preparing for the swim

 We rose early Saturday morning to make the drive from Twin Falls to Burley.

It was a beautiful morning along the Snake River and we parked ourselves on a grassy bank as Dan prepared for the swimming portion.

Disclaimer: He had just popped a protein tablet in his mouth when we took this picture.

 Dan was in the fifth of six waves of the triathlon and entered the Snake River around 7:30 am.

He swam a mile down river and then quickly transitioned for the bicycling portion. 

After completing 25 miles on his road bike he completed the triathlon with a 10K run.

 He finished strong and was exhilarated by it all. I am pretty sure we will be in Burley next year too.

Part of our trip included a quick visit to Oxford.

It was beautiful, quaint, old in all the good ways,

 and boasted Christopher Wren architecture.

A Family Gathering

Last weekend we gathered to celebrate Grandpa Snow's 82nd Birthday.

Jeanmarie and Elisabeth put on an amazing party!

We especially enjoyed watching Grandma and Grandpa dance to 

the amazing sounds of these talented guys!

 We played games, ate good food and had a great time.

More England

One of the days we were in England, we were supposed to go to Windsor Castle.

However, the castle ended up being closed that weekend, so we ended up at Hampton Court Palace instead. We love Hampton Court Palace, especially the lush gardens, so we were excited to take Emily.

Something new for all three of us was visiting Stonehenge.

We decided this was one of our favorite things we did this trip.

Stonehenge has an amazing history and it is quite unreal it still stands in the middle of no where.

The countryside was spectacular.
The mounds in the background line the periphery of the landscape and are ancient burial sites.
Our next stop, Oxford...
