Haziness is Fading

This photo pretty much sums up how it feels to get a concussion...

not so fun.

A couple of weeks ago, Hannah hit her head really hard while indoor surfing. She's been dealing with a lot of headaches, haziness in the memory department and she pretty much can't do anything physical expect walking. So, the running has been put on hold and whether or not we'll let her surf indoors again...

I'm going to have to think about that one.

A Day in the Life of Julia

A typical Wednesday for Julia consistents of an early wake-up call to make it to morning choir before school even starts. I know she likes to sing, but it is also the place to be on Monday and Wednesday mornings.

She puts in a full day in the fifth grade and after school immediately heads to Scera Theater for two hours of theater with a great group of friends.

When she finally makes it home around 6:30 p.m., she grabs dinner (because we've almost always eaten before she gets home--the dad has to get to church meetings). She quickly yet thoroughly races through her homework and the doorbell usually rings at about the same time. She comes to me with pleading, beautiful, big brown eyes and asks if she can please, please, please play night games with the neighborhood kids.
I always mention the piano practicing that she hasn't done and then I usually give in. I know, bad parenting on my part! I guess she is the youngest and I can't help but see how much fun she has and how she never complains when I tell her it's time to come in for the night. Plus, I know how the neighborhood games change with the weather and there will be plenty of freezing nights to play piano.

Constancies

Some of the things that are constant right now in my life:

-Children hacking into my blog and deleting blog posts and pictures. All of you with younger children count yourselves lucky that your children don't read or care about your blog!

-Random photos on the Mac.

-Wondering if I should make the blog private... for a variety of reasons... including the above.

-A cute dog that smells and itches like the rest of us with fall allergies.

-Reading and homework assignments that need to get completed.

-Piano practicing with Julia.

-A morning visit to Crest (except Sundays of course).

-Good intentions of working out.

-Journal keeping.

-A crazy, busy husband who has to travel far too much lately.

-Friday night dates with Dan.

-Laundry, cleaning, cooking, errand running, doctors' appointments, and all the rest that's attached to running a household and being a wife and mom.

-Stake Conference and General Conference twice a year... can't wait... it's my favorite time of year.

I'm realizing that the list is endless but hopefully this meets the "approval" of kids and stays put so that I can at least look back to see what was constant in this moment.

Musings of a mother

This morning, as I wait (again) for the plumber to apparently not show up (again), to look at the leak under my kitchen sink
I decided to sort through random photos.
*
The best photos around our house always have Emily's fingerprints on them and it got me thinking about her, and the three other females I live with, all my daughters.
A few weeks ago I was lamenting my choice to not take the good camera on our Hawaiian getaway. This morning I realized it wasn't a bad choice after all.
Because while Dan and I wondered (occasionally) what the four girls where up to the entire week we left them home alone, little did we know that they were innocently documenting their good times for us.

I love how Emily has always taken photos of her shoes and anyone else's for that matter. I'm pretty sure she possesses some innate passion for them.

While I heard through Julia's joyful, breathless descriptions of their impromptu sprinkler rendezvous, I had no idea how they looked soaking wet or how hard they had all laughed at the randomness of it all.

Emily, the oldest and natural leader of the bunch designated herself as evening fun coordinator, if you will. Each evening she planned a fun and unexpected adventure. Not surprising, she loaded the girls in her car and took them to one of her favorite spot's in the county.

And as Em and I sat at the kitchen table this morning over homemade bran muffins and talked about her forthcoming day, I couldn't help but secretly admit to myself how lucky I am to have this girl home one more year. I'm even luckier that she has the most wonderful way of expressing herself. Check out her blog and you'll know what I mean.
Thanks for the brilliant documentation!

ECON 110

I LOVE to read, but really this...?

Never in a million years did I think I'd ever subscribe to this magazine,
(Dan-- yes--but me, a strong no).
Things change when you are required to subscribe to a particular "paper version" of a magazine for a class. I hope I am pleasantly surprised, intrigued, excited, enthralled. After all, 13 of the 15 assignments will focus around a current article from it.
That being said, honestly, I'll settle for just understanding it.
