My Little Moon Goddess

Julia's third grade class put on a short play yesterday about an Mayan legend set in a rainforest. Her teacher is definitely an amazing lady and keeps the kids busy up until the last day of school (which is tomorrow-yippee!)

Julia was the Moon Goddess and did a marvelous job saying her lines and dancing at the end with all her classmates. I can't believe that she will entering the fourth grade in the fall. She has had the best year of school!

3rd Grade = Projects Galore

What is it with third grade and projects? It has been awhile (5 years to be exact) since I've had one and I guess I've forgotten how much stuff they get to do. Last week's project was the 3rd Grade Science Fair. Julia's project dealt with how the temperature of colored water affects the absorption of water in flowers. I have to admit it was actually quite interesting to watch.


This photo was taken almost immediately after placing the white carnation in warm water. You can see a hint of red coming through the flower's center. Not surpising, the carnation absorbed the warmer water faster and Julia's hypothesis was correct.


This week's project = rainforest animal/insect report. Julia was thrilled to find a rainforest insect with her name in it--the Julia Butterfly of South America.

Gold Medalist

After returning from our trip, Julia heard through the grapevine that she had won the GOLD Medal for the story she wrote and entered into Wasatch's Writers Olympics. The gold medal hung proudly from her neck when she walked in the house from school today.


She was disappointed she had to be at Disneyland when they announced the winners so a blog post will have to suffice this time. Congrats Julia!
